Budapest, 1 July 2026 – The testing phase for the revamped MOL Bubi 3.0 is underway: nearly 100 users have tried the service so far, and the system has recorded nearly 1,000 rentals. Initial feedback has been positive: testers particularly like the electric-assist bicycles, which they find easy to use. In addition, users have praised the bicycles’ practical features, such as the easy-to-adjust seat.
On 19 June, BKK launched a closed test aimed at fine-tuning the new generation of MOL Bubi bikes based on direct feedback gathered during real-world use. Based on user feedback, satisfaction with the service is high, and electric-assist bicycles are particularly popular: testers say they are easy to handle and comfortable to use. In addition, practical features that facilitate everyday use—such as quick and easy seat adjustment—also contribute to the positive experience.
The test period also yielded a great deal of feedback that will help further improve the system. Regarding the app, users primarily provided minor comments related to usability, and in a few cases, they also reported operational or sensitivity issues with the bicycles. All this feedback is important for fine-tuning the system, and BKK is continuously incorporating it into its development efforts.
The company notes that the system is expanding dynamically during the test phase: new bikes are constantly appearing on the streets of Budapest as the trial continues. By the end of June, the new MOL Bubi fleet had already grown to several hundred bikes, and the number of stations currently exceeds 130, making the service available in more and more parts of the city and to an increasing number of users.
In the next step, the group of testers will expand further: on 2 July, BKK will launch a test open to customers, with the aim of gathering even broader feedback to support the finalisation of the system. Starting on that date, anyone with a currently valid BudapestGO pass (of any type), as well as those who purchased an annual or semi-annual MOL Bubi pass in 2024 or 2025, can test the service free of charge, while BKK continuously monitors its operation and fine-tunes the system based on the feedback. The goal is for the new generation of MOL Bubi to provide Budapest residents with an easy-to-use, reliable, and attractive alternative for everyday mobility.
Initially, the first 5,000 applicants will be able to participate in the test, and BKK plans to gradually expand the pool of participants. Those selected will receive detailed information about the terms and conditions and what they need to know to use the service via email when the test begins.
The New MOL Bubi Is Coming with a Larger Fleet and E-Bikes
The next generation of MOL Bubi represents a step forward in every respect: a larger, flexibly expandable fleet—consisting of both traditional and electric-assist bicycles—will be available. Following the official launch, BKK will continuously increase the number of bicycles; after the initial period, it will provide a total of 3,300 bicycles (2,500 conventional and 800 e-bikes), and capacity is expected to grow further in the future.
The goal of introducing electric-assist bicycles is to make MOL Bubi accessible to an even wider range of users. With these new bikes, the service now offers a viable alternative even to customers—such as those traveling longer distances—for whom it was previously not an obvious choice for one reason or another. Thanks to the electric assist feature, using MOL Bubi will become more convenient and easier for them as well.
