Budapest, 6 Julyc2026 – In light of the positive experiences and high level of interest, BKK is making the new generation of MOL Bubi available for testing to another 5,000 customers. Over the past week, thousands of people have tried out the new system, and based on the feedback, users have responded positively to the new conventional bicycles and electric-assist bikes.
Starting 6 July 2026, those who currently have a valid public transport pass in the BudapestGO app, as well as those who purchased an annual or semi-annual MOL Bubi pass in 2024 or 2025, can register for the test announced by BKK on its website. BKK will notify users via email with the information needed to use the service.
BKK is rolling out the new generation of MOL Bubi in several phases to fine-tune the system based on direct user feedback in a real-world usage environment. The company first launched a closed test on 19 June 2026, then in early July made the test available to the first 5,000 customers who currently hold a valid BudapestGO pass, as well as those who had previously purchased a half-year or annual MOL Bubi pass.
Based on user feedback, satisfaction with the service is high, and electric-assist bicycles are particularly popular: according to testers, they are easy to handle and comfortable to use. In addition, practical features that facilitate everyday use—such as quick and easy seat adjustment—also contribute to the positive experience. The test period also yielded a great deal of feedback that will help further improve the system. Regarding the app, users primarily provided minor comments related to usability; in a few cases, they also reported operational or sensitivity issues with the bicycles. All of this is important feedback for fine-tuning the system, which the mobility manager is continuously incorporating into its development efforts.
The Public Bike-Sharing System Takes a Step Forward
The next generation of MOL Bubi represents a step forward in every respect: a larger fleet—expandable to meet user needs—will be available, consisting of both mechanical and electrically assisted bicycles. Following the official launch, BKK will continuously increase the number of bicycles; after the initial period, it will provide a total of 3,300 bicycles (2,500 classic and 800 electric-assist models), and capacity is expected to grow further in the future.
The goal of introducing electric-assist bicycles is to make MOL Bubi accessible to an even wider range of users. With these new bikes, the service now offers a viable alternative even to customers—such as those traveling longer distances—for whom it was previously not the most obvious choice for one reason or another. Thanks to the electric assist feature, using MOL Bubi becomes more convenient and easier for them as well.
