Budapest, 20 July 2026 – The trial period of the renewed MOL Bubi public bike-sharing system is drawing to a close, enabling the BKK Centre for Budapest Transport to fine-tune the service based on real user experience. The pilot phase also generated valuable feedback that will support the further development of the system and will be incorporated into future improvements by BKK. Based on users' comments and suggestions, the company has also revised the pricing structure of the public bike-sharing service. Together with the service provider, BKK's experts are working around the clock to complete the final adjustments to the MOL Bubi IT back-end so that the mobile application can operate seamlessly. BKK would like to thank users for their patience and apologises for the prolonged interruption of the service over the past months.
BKK kindly asks users for a few more days of patience before the official launch of the renewed MOL Bubi. The final testing of the system's complex back-end infrastructure is currently under way. As part of the last testing phase, a temporary shutdown of the application – and therefore of bicycle rentals – will be required to complete the integration of the payment and invoicing functions and to finalise the calibration of the bicycles' settings.
Due to the nature of the ongoing tests, it is not possible to determine the exact timing of the shutdown in advance. BKK therefore asks participants in the pilot programme to follow its official communication channels, where information about the end of the trial period and the subsequent temporary service suspension of a few days will be announced shortly.
User feedback helped shape the service
Nearly 15,000 users signed up for the pilot programme, and both their riding habits and their feedback have provided BKK with highly valuable insights.
Among other improvements, these findings supported the fine-tuning of bicycle settings – including the level of electric assistance – as well as the development of user guidance and educational materials.
The exceptionally high demand for electric bicycles, together with user feedback and consultations with the Hungarian Cyclists' Club, also prompted BKK to revise the pricing model of the renewed MOL Bubi service.
The renewed service launches with attractive prices
Electric-assist MOL Bubi bicycles will be available with an introductory monthly pass priced at HUF 4,500, including 15 minutes of free use per ride.
The annual pass for classic bicycles will become more affordable. Customers holding a valid BudapestGO public transport pass will be able to purchase it for HUF 17,000, while the standard annual pass will cost HUF 19,500. The discounted monthly pass will be available for HUF 2,000 (or HUF 2,500 at the standard price) and will include 30 minutes of free use per ride, with the benefit applying to up to two bicycles.
