From 16:00 on Saturday, 15 November, traffic will be able to cross the renovated southern bridge towards Pest. Further information is provided below.
The reason why renovation is required of the over 40-year old overpasses at Flórián tér connecting Szentendrei út and Árpád híd is that it could be used safely even in the upcoming decades. During the reconstruction works lasting from the spring of 2025 to the spring of 2026, not only will the road surface be rebuilt, but the defects in the concrete structure will also be repaired. Reconstruction works will result in significant traffic changes, however the reconstruction will take place separately on the overpasses, hence one of each will always be maintained for road transport.
Transport changes in road transport
The reconstruction of the Flórián tér overpasses result in traffic changes and temporary restrictions. Therefore, if you are traveling in this area—whether arriving from or heading to the metropolitan area—and you have the option, please use public transport during the renovation period to help reduce local traffic congestion.
If you absolutely must use your car and are able to do so, avoid Flórián tér and choose a different route.
On Friday, 14 November, from 20:00:
- it will not be possible to drive onto the northern bridge from the direction of Szentendre; the lane from Árpád híd towards Szentendre will remain open.
- Until the southern bridge opens on Saturday, traffic from Szentendre towards Pest will only be able to pass through the Pacsirtamező utca turnaround.
On Saturday, 15 November, from 16:00, the southern bridge of the overpass will open to traffic heading towards Árpád Bridge and Pest.
At the same time, the following traffic pattern will be in effect until the complete closure of the northern bridge, i.e., as planned, until 20:00 on 21 November:
- the renovated southern bridge can be accessed via one lane, and the roadway on the bridge will be widened to two lanes
- those heading towards Árpád fejedelem útja can also use the exit ramp of the overpass
- those arriving from Árpád Bridge can use one lane to cross the northern bridge towards Szentendre, or they can use one lane on Tavasz utca to make a slight right turn, or they can use two lanes to continue straight ahead towards Vörösvári út
- arriving from Vörösvári út, it is still not possible to turn left, but by turning right, Szentendrei út can be reached via the Pacsirtamező utca turnaround.
- coming from Szentendre, along the renovated southern overpass, you can drive straight ahead in one lane towards the Pacsirtamező utca turnaround, with the outer lane still reserved for buses.
