Budapest, 2 July 2026 – Customer testing of the new generation of MOL Bubi has begun: the first 5,000 registered users can try out the system free of charge starting today. Following the test, the new classic MOL Bubi bikes will be available starting at 2,500 Forints per month, while the electric-assist models will start at 3,500 Forints. The new MOL Bubi pricing structure offers a predictable and competitive alternative for everyday, short urban trips, and will be available at an even greater discount for classic bikes with a BudapestGO pass. For holders of passes valid for electric-assist bicycles, BKK is offering discounted usage until 31 August 2026: with a pass, the bicycles can be used free of charge for up to 5 minutes per use.
Starting today, the first 5,000 registered users who signed up for the test announced by BKK and currently hold a public transport pass in the BudapestGO app, as well as those who purchased an annual or semi-annual MOL Bubi pass in 2024 or 2025, can try out the new generation of MOL Bubi for free. BKK is rolling out the MOL Bubi service in several phases: a closed test began on 19 June, but starting 2 July, a wider range of users will be able to try out the new system, while BKK continuously monitors its operation and fine-tunes the system based on feedback. Initially, the company will offer access to the first 5,000 applicants; BKK will notify users via email with the information needed to use the service.
Affordable monthly fee and easy use
BKK’s goal—as it was in previous generations of MOL Bubi—is to keep the service affordable for Budapest residents and regular commuters; therefore, the subscription plan is available exclusively to those with a Hungarian residential address. Occasional users and tourists can access the service on a pay-as-you-go basis.
A monthly pass for the classic MOL Bubi bikes costs 2,500 HUF, which entitles customers to:
- 30 minutes of free use per trip
- use of the service without an unlocking fee
- and the ability to use up to two bikes at the same time
The monthly fee for electric-assist MOL Bubi bikes is 3,500 HUF, which also includes
- access to classic MOL Bubi bikes
- no unlocking fee
- and the option to use electric-assist bikes for a low per-minute rate of 60 HUF
Discount with a BudapestGO pass and free minutes on e-bikes
BKK customers with a monthly or annual public transport pass purchased through the BudapestGO app can rent bikes at a discounted rate: the monthly pass for classic bikes (2,500 HUF) is available at a discounted price of 2,000 HUF, and the annual pass is available for 17,000 HUF (instead of 21,250 HUF).
Furthermore, starting from the launch date through 31 August 2026, BKK is offering discounted access to electric-assist bicycles for holders of valid passes: with the pass, bicycles can be used free of charge for up to 5 minutes per use.
A new generation and an expanding fleet
The next generation of MOL Bubi represents a step forward in every respect: a larger fleet than the current one—one that can be expanded to meet user needs—will be available, consisting of both mechanical and electrically assisted bicycles. Following the official launch, BKK will continuously increase the number of bicycles; after the initial period, it will provide a total of 3,300 bicycles (2,500 classic and 800 electric-assist), and capacity is expected to grow further in the future.
The goal of introducing electric-assist bicycles is to make MOL Bubi accessible to an even wider range of users. With these new vehicles, the service now offers a viable alternative even to customers—such as those traveling longer distances—for whom it was previously not an obvious choice for one reason or another. Thanks to the electric-assist feature, using MOL Bubi becomes more convenient and easier for them as well.
