Project name: Transport Research Arena 2026: Budapest

Project acronym: TRA2026

Duration: 01.04.2024 – 30.09.2026

Description

The TRA (Transport Research Arena) is a biennial transportation conference organized by the European Commission, which will take place in Budapest in 2026. The conference was established by the European Commission following the example of the American TRB (Transport Research Board), with the aim of making it Europe's largest transportation event of its kind (excluding occasional global transportation events held in Europe). At the 2024 TRA held in Dublin, over 4,500 participants from more than 50 countries attended, and a similar level of interest can be expected for the 2026 TRA in Budapest.

The objective of the project is for the conference preparation to be carried out by an expert consortium. The permanent members of this consortium are ECTRI and FEHRL (European organizations), the main organizer of the previous conference (in this case, the University College Dublin), as well as key transportation-related organizations and research institutes of the host country. The task of this consortium is to prepare and organize the 2026 TRA conference, including not only the professional program but also related competitions and site visits. In this regard, the coordinating entity is BKK.
