Public transport plays a decisive role in urban life and development, as thanks to their operation, a significant amount of people is able to get about within the city quickly, effectively, in an environmentally-friendly way. In the framework of the UPPER project, BKK wishes to further increase the advantages provided by public transport and would make the service even more attractive and passenger-friendly. Thus, BKK takes aim at increasing the share and competitiveness of zero-emission mobility, supporting the achievement of the EU Green Deal to be realised by 2030.

In the framework of the UPPER project, BKK Centre for Budapest Transport wishes to develop the BudapestGO journey planning system along with its features, further develop the measures prioritising public transport, stimulate multimodal trips (trips taken partially by public transport, partially by other transport modes), by establishing Multimodal Digital Mobility Packages and also improve the efficiency and comfort of public transport services.

The kick-off meeting of the UPPER project with a total budget of circa EUR 23 million was held in Brussels in January, 2023 led by UITP, with the participation of BKK Centre for Budapest Transport.

BKK’s EU-funded (70%) research-development project with the highest ever budget, is expected to run for four years, with the participation of such cities, among others, as Oslo, Rome, Mannheim and Valencia.
