Reconstruction works of the overpasses at Flórián tér

The reason why renovation is required of the over 40-year old overpasses at Flórián tér connecting Szentendrei út and Árpád híd is that it could be used safely even in the upcoming decades. During the reconstruction which began in the spring of 2025 and will end in 2026, not only will the road surface be rebuilt, but the defects in the concrete structure will also be repaired. Reconstruction works will result in significant traffic changes, however the reconstruction will take place separately on the overpasses, hence one of each will always be maintained for road transport.

Current traffic changes – road transport

The reconstruction of the Flórián tér overpasses result in traffic changes and temporary restrictions. Therefore, if you are traveling in this area—whether arriving from or heading to the metropolitan area—and you have the option, please use public transport during the renovation period to help reduce local traffic congestion.

If you absolutely must use your car and are able to do so, avoid Flórián tér and choose a different route.

  • The northern bridge will be completely closed, and those traveling from Pest to Buda on the Árpád Bridge should expect longer travel times and congestion
  • the Árpád Bridge exit narrows to two lanes for a short section after the Buda bridgehead
  • from Pest, you can turn right onto Szentendrei út at the junction under the overpass, using two lanes
  • from Pest towards Buda, North Buda, and Szentendre, it is advisable to avoid the Árpád Bridge
  • on the renovated southern bridge, traffic can continue as usual, initially in one lane, then in two lanes
  • those traveling from Szentendrei út to Pest can use the turnback lane on Pacsirtamező utca to turn onto the Árpád Bridge in two lanes.
  • alongside the renovated southern overpass, one lane can be used to drive straight ahead towards the turnback lane on Pacsirtamező utca, while the outer lane remains reserved for buses
  • from Vörösvári út – in order to facilitate traffic arriving from Árpád Bridge and turning right towards Szentendrei út – it is still not possible to turn left, but by turning right, Szentendrei út can still be reached via the Pacsirtamező utca turnback lane.
  • From Tavasz utca, it is not possible to continue straight to the Flórián tér street-level junction; only construction traffic, BKK lines, and cyclists are allowed to pass in this direction. For those arriving from Tavasz utca, instead of taking the Árpád fejedelem útja–Tavasz utca–Vörösvári út route, we recommend going via Lajos utca–Nagyszombat utca–Bécsi út to Road 10, and via Lajos utca–Pacsirtamező utca–Szentendrei út to Road 11.

Current traffic changes – public transport

During the renovation of the Flórián tér overpasses, you should expect longer travel times. If you are traveling in the area, please use the BudapestGO app to plan your trip: the app provides continuously updated travel information.

  • Daytime bus lines 34, 106, 118, and 134, as well as night lines 901 and 918 arriving from Szentendrei út run on the southern bridge again from 15 November, so they don't stop at Flórián tér next to the shopping centre
  • buses 34, 106, 901 and 918 resume serving the Szentlélek tér stop
  • trams 1 and 1A, as well as buses 34 and 106, also run more frequently during busy periods
  • on Árpád Bridge, from Népfürdő utca to Szentlélek tér, during the renovation, a new bus lane facilitates the passage of buses 34, 106, and 226 heading towards Buda, bus 26 heading to Margitsziget, and suburban buses.
  • from Békásmegyer towards the city centre, we recommend using the HÉV suburban railway line H5: at Margit Bridge, you can transfer to trams 4 and 6, and at Batthyány tér, you can transfer to metro line M2
  • for those arriving from the metropolitan area, we recommend using the suburban train lines
