SUNRISE

Sustainable Urban Neighbourhoods – Research and Implementation Support in Europe

SUNRISE

Project name: SUNRISE (Sustainable Urban Neighbourhoods – Research and Implementation Support in Europe)

Duration: 01/05/2017 - 31/07/2021

Description

Goals of the SUNRISE project are to create sustainable neighborhoods and rethink and test the usage of local transport and community spaces with the inclusion of residents with participatory design. The project approaches transport-related issues on the level of cities (neighbourhoods) in Bremen, Budapest, Jerusalem, Malmö, Southend-on-Sea and in Saloniki. The project in Budapest is realized in the Törökőr neighbourhood of district Zugló. It is intended to plan and introduce such innovative and sustainable transport solutions, which support to make Törökőr be a more people-centred, liveable neighbourhood. The project team in Budapest is in charge of testing the practice of neighbourhood-level community planning, mapping the mobility-related issues arisen in Törökőr and also collecting recommended solutions with the inclusion of local residents.

The project’s prominent feature is to ensure widespread participation, thus planning could be realised, by the continuous and mutual brainstorming with the relevant local stakeholders. In the course of the process, in the first step, the current transport situations are analysed and the local attributes and issues are explored, then in the next step, possible interventions and developments are determined, finally, in the last step, interventions selected by the residents are realised by the Municipality of Zugló, out of the project fund (traffic calming in the surrounding area of Tábornok utca, development of traffic safety in the pedestrian underground of Tábornok utca and also traffic safety-related development of accessibility to schools and kindergartens in the surrounding area of Újvidék tér).
