Project name: DANOVA (Innovative transportation services for blind and partially-sighted passengers in Danube Region)

Duration: 01/07/2020 - 31/12/2022

Description

The goal of the DANOVA project is to support the blind and partially-sighted passengers at and in the vicinity of busy transport hubs (railway stations, ports, airports). In Europe, there are over 30 million blind and partially sighted people who cannot travel independently, because more than 96% of the European transport system is still not fully accessible to people with visual impairments. To improve the current situation, the DANOVA project promotes the realisation of the below-described interventions with integrative and transnational approach:

  • assess best practices on an international scale to be applied in the Danube region,
  • create strategies to be applied to support policy makers in order that the already-identified solutions could be used efficiently,
  • include stakeholders in the planning phase of a new transnational concept in the Danube region of a transport system fully-accessible to blind and partially-sighted passengers,
  • test innovative solutions in the participating cities,

In Budapest, the project partners are BKK Center for Budapest Transport and Budapest Airport. The DANOVA project’s strong representation in Budapest enables that the services provided to BKK’s visually-impaired customers could be assessed with a unified approach from Budapest’s city centre to Liszt Ferenc International Airport and among the identified issues, the most important ones could be solved, by applying best practices.
