PUBLIC TRANSPORT TICKETS, TRAVELCARDS AND PASSES

Public transport in Budapest can only be used with a valid(ated) ticket, travelcard or pass which can be purchased at ticket offices, from ticket vending machines and designated resellers, as well as paperless mobile tickets in selected mobile apps.

We recommend the following types of ticket and travelcard:

Single ticket: valid for one uninterrupted trip without return according to the rules described below. You can use all buses, trolleybuses and trams without transferring. Within the city boundaries, the ticket is also valid on the suburban railway lines. On the metro network, transfers are allowed between the lines, but you cannot travel backwards on the same line.

How to validate tickets:

24-hour group Budapest-travelcard: the same rules apply as to the individual Budapest 24-hour travelcard. Up to 5 passengers can use it only if they are travelling together as a group in the same vehicle (in case of trains in the same carriage).

NIGHT TRANSPORT

The operation of evening/night services is quite different from that of daytime services, but they still meet travel needs very well and everyone can find the most suitable means of transport. In the city centre, tram 6 runs throughout the night as do night buses. The numbering of the buses starts with a 9 and their network covers the whole capital, including the outlying districts.
