What are the rules for using this fare product?
It is valid for an unlimited number of trips within its validity period.
To be used by up to 10 passengers travelling together in the same vehicle (in the case of a train, in the same carriage).
To be used by people aged between 14 and 25 with the proof of their age, as well as those in possession of the ’közalkalmazotti’ utazási utalványa (travel certificate for public employees). You can read a detailed description of the group of people entitled to 50% discount travel by clicking here.
For what services is the pass valid?
The Suburban railway tour ticket (H5) is valid on line H5 between Békásmegyer and Szentendre, the Suburban railway tour ticket H8, H9 is valid on line H8 between Szabadságtelep and Csömör, and on line H9 between Ilonatelep and Gödöllő.
Ticket validation
No validation is required after purchase.
Validity period
From 0:00 on the chosen calendar day (but from the date of purchase the soonest) until 02:00 on the following day.
Photo ID required for use
In the case of young passengers, the ticket can be used together with an identity card for proof of age, or with a passport, a driver's license in card format, a "Hungarian ID card", a "Hungarian family member's card ("Personalised ’’Magyar igazolvány” or ’’Magyar hozzátartozói igazolvány”) or a residence permit issued by a Hungarian authority or in case of passengers having a travel certificate together with an ID card.
Sales points
This ticket type is on sale in the MÁV app, its paper-based version is on sale even at the ticket offices and vending machines of MÁV and GYSEV Zrt. Sales options are to be found even at BKK at: BKK Sales Point Finder. Please note that they are not on sale by suburban railway inspectors.
Refund rules
Tickets purchased in advance can be refunded before its validity period, in case the price of the ticket exceeds the handling fee. (detailed regulation).

Delay insurance (compensation) for delays of more than 20 minutes on domestic interurban services
Delay insurance was introduced from 1 June 2025 only for tickets whose validity period started on or after 1 June 2025.
If the suburban railway (HÉV) train arrives at your destination with a delay of more than 20 minutes at least once during the validity of your ticket, you are entitled to a 10% compensation on the next purchase of the same type of ticket. To qualify for compensation, you would have had to wait at least 15 minutes for the next service after the one you used, according to the timetable (i.e. if there had been no delay). Of course, of the later services, only the one that stops at your destination should be considered.
Delay insurance applies to the area of validity of the ticket. For example, if you are travelling on the H5 line from Szentendre to the Budapest terminus (Batthyány tér station) with a Suburban Railway Tour Ticket and a Budapest-pass, the delay insurance applies to the section of the route between Szentendre and the Budapest administrative boundary station (Békásmegyer). In this example, if the HÉV train is only behind schedule on the Budapest section (or has already been delayed outside Budapest, but not by more than 20 minutes), you will not be compensated. In the case of a return journey (to Szentendre) on the route mentioned in the example, the delay insurance can be claimed if there was a delay of more than 20 minutes on the Békásmegyer-Szentendre section of the tour ticket (regardless of whether the delay occurred there or on the Budapest section).
Compensation can be claimed within 45 days after the expiry of the ticket validity at MÁV, VOLÁN and GYSEV Zrt. ticket offices, based on a delay confirmation. The compensation is 10%, even if there was more than one delay.
You can request a HÉV delay confirmation from customer service of MÁV within 72 hours of arrival at your destination.
