What are the rules for using the single ticket?
It is valid for a one-way single trip. Trip interruptions and return trips are not permitted.
For what services is the ticket valid?
The single ticket is valid for a single ride without transfers on almost all BKK lines as well as on regional buses and suburban railway lines; specifically, on the full length of lines 1-99, 101-299, 900-999, but only within the territory of Budapest on lines H5, H6, H7, H8 and H9. On the metro network (lines M1, M2, M3 and M4), the ticket is valid for a single ride with transfers.
Price change and terms of use of old tickets
The price of the single ticket has changed to 450 HUF as of 1 September 2023.
Paper-based single tickets purchased for 350 HUF, can be used for travel until 31 August 2024, and can be exchanged for single tickets of the current price at the customer service centres between 1 September and 30 November 2024 without a handling fee, but upon payment of the price difference. After that date, the 350 HUF tickets are no longer valid for travel and will not be refunded.
Single tickets purchased as a mobile ticket before 1 September 2022 have a validity period of 2 years from the date of purchase, while single tickets bought on or after 1 September 2022 have a validity period of 1 year. Tickets can be validated or refunded in the app during this period. After the expiry date, the tickets will become invalid and can no longer be used for travel and will not be refunded.
Ticket validation – paper tickets
On the metro network (lines M1, M2, M3 and M4), the single ticket must be validated with a validating machine at the metro station entrance before you start your trip by entering the paying zone. On all other services, ticket validation must be done upon boarding the vehicle or upon departure at the latest. If you need to transfer to a replacement vehicle (e.g. in the event of cancellation, breakdown, track closure), you can continue your journey with the ticket already validated, but you must re-validate the ticket by stamping its end without the number grid with the validator of the replacement vehicle.
Ticket validation – mobile ticket
The digital single ticket must be validated before you start your trip by scanning the code sticker to be found at the metro station entrances and on the outside by the door of other vehicles. Please present the appearing animated image to access control staff on duty at metro station entrances or to the driver on vehicles where you must board through the front door. For how long is it valid?
The ticket is valid until the end of the journey under the above conditions of use on the vehicle on which the ticket is validated or until the end of the journey on the metro network in the case of using the metro. The journey must be completed no later than 80 minutes from the time of validation, or 120 minutes on night services. The ticket must be presented at the time of ticket inspection and handed over at the request of the person carrying out the check.
