Project name: EMPOWER (EMPOWERING a reduction in use of conventionally fuelled vehicles using positive policy measures)
Project Acronym: EMPOWER
Duration: 01.05.2015. – 31.03.2018.
Description
The goal of the EMPOWER project is to reduce the use of traditional fuel-powered vehicles in cities and to change drivers' attitudes in order to improve urban traffic conditions, enhance air quality, and reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. With the approach of "reward rather than punishment," the EMPOWER project explores the potential of using positive incentives through mobile applications and online platforms to influence users' transportation mode choices.
In Budapest, the goal of the project was to convince those traveling by traditional motor vehicles in the city center that the MOL Bubi public bikesharing system can be a competitive alternative for their inner-city trips. Additionally, encouraging parking outside of public areas can contribute to frequent car users opting to use public bicycles for the final part of their inner-city journeys. The tasks of the BKK in the project include:
- Developing a marketing and business plan for the introduction and long-term operation of the incentive service.
- Designing and executing a targeted awareness campaign based on existing databases.
- Testing and evaluating the incentive system with the involvement of tens of thousands of users.
