Life-size LEGO tram at Deák Ferenc tér

This Advent season, you can find a truly unique vehicle at Deák Ferenc tér: a life-size LEGO® tram has arrived in the heart of the capital. Built from nearly 1.8 million LEGO bricks, the 11.5-metre-long, 2-metre-high and 2-metre-wide structure is not only a symbol of transport, but also of playful creativity. The joint initiative of BKK, BKV, Budapest Brand and LEGO is not only promoting public transport but also raising awareness of the importance of play.

The life-size tram car was designed by master builder Balázs Dóczy, and from a distance it looks like it was built by a child with LEGO bricks. On closer inspection, you can see that there are lots of tiny little bricks that make up a larger colourful one. Another special feature is that while the life-size LEGO vehicles are built from flexible elements, the Budapest tram is made only from classic LEGO bricks. It was designed by acclaimed LEGO designer Balázs Dóczy and built to appeal to all ages.

The tram is towed by the iconic BKV freight tram, which many of you may have known from maintenance work. With this unusual pairing we would like to bring a smile to your face.

Place your own brick on the tram

The LEGO Tram can be seen up close and personal at Deák Ferenc tér until Friday 20 December 2024. And you can do more than just admire: you can also place your own brick on the base plates at the bottom of the tram.
