From 18 October to 13 November 2015 – Pedestrians, motorists, cyclists, chairlift

Changes affecting pedestrians

As a minor change from 30 August 2015 (Sunday) the pedestrian traffic is controlled by a traffic light at the junction of Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor–Krisztina körút–Margit körút.

Service on the Hűvösvölgy section of tram 61 from 31 August

From 31 August (Monday) the temporary Széll Kálmán tér M terminus of tram 61 departing from Hűvösvölgy is relocated to the Margit körút side of the square next to the terminus of trams 4 and 6, therefore the transfer time is reduced significantly:

  • Trams 4 and 6 are accessible on the other side of the platform.
  • Metro line M2 is accessible on foot in 2–3 minutes.
  • Buses departing from or serving Széll Kálmán tér are also accessible more easily.

No changes apply to the service on the southern route section of tram 61, it continues to run between the Széll Kálmán tér M temporary terminus and Móricz Zsigmond körtér.

Public road restrictions

From Wednesday morning (28 October 2015) the refurbished carraigeway at Széna tér with 2 lanes in both directions is available for motorists arriving from Margit körút or from Csalogány utca to Széll Kálmán tér. At the same time the pedestrian crossing between Széll Kálmán tér and Lövőház utca, leading to the shopping centre is open again.

Due to the asphalting of Krisztina körút between Csaba utca and Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor, only one lane is open temporarily for motorists towards Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor, and from Margit körút towards Krisztina körút between 20:00 on 28 October 2015 (Wednesday) and 06:00 on 29 October 2015 (Thursday).

From Sunday morning (18 October 2015), the reconstruction of Széll Kálmán tér continues with lane closures at the central area of the Krisztina körút–Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor–Széll Kálmán tér signalled intersection.

  • The most important change is the only one lane per direction will be open to traffic at the intersection of the Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor–Krisztina körút route.
  • Direct left turns to Margit körút and Dékán utca will temporarily not be possible when coming from Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor, therefore the Krisztina körút–Csaba utca–Várfok utca–Széll Kálmán tér detour is advised.
  • A dedicated left-turn lane to Csaba utca will be open at the Krisztina körút–Csaba utca intersection.
  • The section of Csaba utca between Krisztina körút and Várfok utca will be one-way only to Várfok utca.
  • The section of Várfok utca between Csaba utca and Széll Kálmán tér will be one-way only to Széll Kálmán tér. Right turns from Várfok utca to Széll Kálmán tér – Dékán utca and Margit körút will be signalled.
  • A dedicated lane on Krisztina körút will be open to traffic coming from Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor, while two lanes remain open to traffic coming from Margit körút. Thus Krisztina körút to Csaba utca will have a total of three open lanes.
  • Two lanes will be open to traffic coming from Krisztina up to the intersection, where the inner lane can be used to access Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor. The outer lane can still be used for left turns to Széll Kálmán tér – Dékán utca and Margit körút.
  • The section of Széll Kálmán tér by Margit körút between Dékán utca and Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor will be closed. 2 by 2 lanes will be open to traffic past the construction area from Margit körút to Krisztina körút as well as from Krisztina körút and Várfok utca to Dékán utca and Margit körút.
  • One lane remains open on Széll Kálmán tér by Széna tér to traffic from Csalogány utca and Margit körút and in the opposite direction as well. Dékán utca remains one-way to Fény utca.
