From 21 March to 17 April 2015 – Pedestrians, motorists, cyclists, chairlift
From Saturday, 21 March 2015 the pedestrian crossing at the exit of the Széll Kálmán tér bus terminus will be temporarily suspended. In order to cross Margit körút, please use the crossing at Dékán utca.
Traffic restrictions on the Margit körút–Margit híd–Szent István körút route – major congestion expected
As construction will start on the section of Árpád fejedelem útja under Margit híd and also in the park north of the bridge, a dedicated walking path through the park will be provided between the pedestrian crossing and the bus stops on Árpád fejedelem útja. Passengers coming from a stop on Margit híd wishing to reach the bus stops to Óbuda are advised to go through the stop of suburban railway line H5 to Szentendre.
The pedestrian crossing at Hollán Ernő utca–Falk Miksa utca will be temporarily suspended. Please use the crossing to Jászai Mari tér and Pozsonyi út at the other end of the tram stop instead.
The pedestrian crossing at the Erőd utca intersection of Margit körút in Buda will also be suspended. Please use the crossings at Keleti Károly utca or Fényes Elek utca instead.
Thank you for your kind understanding and patience during the period of inconvenient road closures and public transport restrictions.
Due to road construction works on Krisztina körút between Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor and Csaba utca in the direction of Attila út, 2x2 diverted lanes are provided for motorists along the construction area. Please pay special attention when driving, because the bus lane is temporarily terminated.
From Saturday, 21 March 2015, due to the next phase of the construction of the Interconnected Tram Network in Buda, the two right lanes of the 2 x 2 road from Széll Kálmán tér to Széna tér will be closed. One lane per direction of the left lanes will be open to traffic. Please note there will be no access from Széll Kálmán tér to Ostrom utca.
From Thursday, 26 March 2015, on the section of Várfok utca between Vérmező út and Csaba utca, only the lane to Csaba utca will be open to one-way traffic for several months due to construction.
Traffic restrictions on the Margit körút–Margit híd–Szent István körút route – major congestion expected
From Saturday, 21 March 2015, due to the next phase of the construction of the Interconnected Tram Network in Buda and track refurbishment on Szent István körút in Pest as well as between Margit híd budai hídfő and Széna tér in Buda, road congestion is expected until approximately mid-May.
Priority bus lanes will be temporarily opened for replacement bus 4-6 on some sections of its route, while on other route sections only one lane per direction will be open. Traffic lights between Széll Kálmán tér and Nyugati tér will be reprogrammed to provide longer green light so as to aid car traffic going straight ahead on Margit körút and the Grand Boulevard. This will mean longer than usual waiting times for both motorists and pedestrians crossing the ring roads.
Further traffic restrictions:
- Major closures at Margit híd budai hídfő in Buda: up to the intersection of Mecset utca only one lane will be open to traffic coming from the bridge to Széll Kálmán tér, as well as when for traffic coming from Török utca onto Margit körút
- Motorists arriving from the Margit utca–Mecset utca serpentine road please note that Margit híd is not accessible via Mecset utca due to road closure. Please use the Rómer Flóris utca–Margit körút–Fekete Sas utca–Bem József tér–Lipthay utca route instead to reach Margit híd.
- Motorists arriving from Széll Kálmán tér have two options to reach Margit híd: in case the Margit körút–Tölgyfa utca–Margit körút route is congested, please use the Tölgyfa utca–Fekete Sas utca–Bem József tér–Lipthay utca diversion. Only one traffic lane of Margit körút is open to Margit híd on the section between Tölgyfa utca and Lipthay utca.
- At the junction of Keleti Károly utca and Margit körút only the left lane will be open for left turns onto Margit körút; the right lane is open only for straight traffic to Szász Károly utca and also for right turns.
- The bus lane on Árpád fejedelem útja will be relocated to the centre of the road to aid buses to Fő utca between the edge of the car park at Császár-Komjádi Sportuszoda (swimming pool) and the Üstökös utca junction, therefore motorists wishing to go to Fő utca please use the inside lane, while those turning into Üstökös utca please use the outer right lane.
- On the section of the Grand Boulevard between Jászai Mari tér and Dob utca, no stopping is allowed.
- Only one traffic lane per direction is open on the Grad Boulevard between Jászai Mari tér and Dob utca. One of the current two lanes to Margit híd will be turned into a bus lane while a shared lane will be open for buses and cars going to Oktogon. One of the two lanes coming from Margit híd will be open for straight traffic to Szent István körút while the other can be used only to reach Balassi Bálint utca and Jászai Mari tér.
- The turning lanes from Teréz körút unto Bajcsy-Zsilinszky at Nyugati tér will be closed.
The constructions in connection with the changes above begin already in the evening on Friday, 20 March 2015. Due to restrictions, traffic will be slow in both directions on the road section Margit körút–Tölgyfa utca–Margit híd–Szent István körút, with congestion expected on this route and major roads leading to it. Until approximately mid-May, motorists are advised to use Árpád híd or Erzsébet híd instead of Margit híd.
We kindly ask cyclists to use the bypasses during the reconstruction of Széll Kálmán tér.
The area will be accessible for cyclists from the spring of 2016.
