From 31 May to 25 June 2015 – Pedestrians, motorists, cyclists, chairlift

The most significant change affecting pedestrians is that the area between the lower end of Várfok utca and Krisztina körút will be closed. In order to reach Krisztina körút from the direction of Széll Kálmán tér, please walk via Csaba utca and the stairs. The designated pedestrian paths on Széll Kálmán tér itself will not change.

From Friday evening on 12 June 2015 until Monday evening on 15 June as well as on 22 June (Monday) and on 23 June (Tuesday), a short route section will be closed on the inner traffic lane going straight from Krisztina körút to Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor, ahead of the Széll Kálmán tér junction with traffic lights, due to water pipe reconstruction works on Széll Kálmán tér. Next to the reconstruction area, the lane will be diverted and two lanes can be used. To Margit körút, the only lane turning right will be temporarily suspended.

Due to the reconstruction works, motorists going to Széll Kálmán tér can expect significant traffic congestion on the Alkotás utca-Krisztina.

From 4 June 2015 (Thursday) one of the two lanes towards Széna tér is closed on Margit körút between Dékán utca and Széna tér due to public utility reconstruction works on the northern side of Széll Kálmán tér.

The modification of the traffic alignment is not resulting in significant impact on the daily traffic: still both lanes can be used when turning from Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor to Margit körút and from Margit körút to Krisztina körút.

From Sunday, 31 May 2015 the traffic alignment of Széll Kálmán tér will change significantly. The road on Krisztina körút leading to Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor will be finalised, so the traffic alignment will be almost identical to the original one at the Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor–Krisztina körút–Széll Kálmán tér junction with traffic lights. The temporarily installed connecting road between Krisztina körút and Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor will be closed. Those wishing to go towards Dékán utca from Krisztina körút need to turn right at the junction using the designated lane. Two traffic lanes will remain open from Margit körút to Krisztina körút.

The lower section of Várfok utca between Csaba utca and Széll Kálmán tér will be closed in both directions, so that those coming from Várfok utca to Krisztina körút need to go via Csaba utca.

The lane closure on Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor ahead of Széll Kálmán tér will be lifted. On the road from Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor to Krisztina körút no traffic light will be installed yet at the Széll Kálmán tér junction, thus motorists coming from Margit körút have the right of way.

Turning back towards Margit körút when coming from Dékán utca will still be possible using the designated turning lane.

Thanks to the new traffic alignment, motorists going from Krisztina körút towards Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor can expect improved conditions with less congestion. The most significant change affecting traffic is due to the closure of the lower end of Várfok utca and accordingly BKK advises customers to avoid the area if possible.

We kindly ask cyclists to use the bypasses during the reconstruction of Széll Kálmán tér.

The area will be accessible for cyclists from the spring of 2016.
