From 30 January to 1 February 2015 – Pedestrians, motorists, cyclists, chairlift

From 30 January 2015 (Friday) the passage between the metro building and the adjacent building (a former eatery), will be closed, therefore pedestrians need to go around those buildings in order to reach Margit körút. On 31 January (Saturday) and 1 February (Sunday) the stairs leading down from Vérmező út to the currently unused terminus of tram 18 will be closed due to the construction of the temporary tram terminus. The stairs will be reopened on 2 February (Monday) to provide access to the temporary terminus of trams 4 and 6.

From 19 January the traffic alignment at the junction of Krisztina körút – Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor is changing significantly. Three minor junctions with traffic lights will be constructed temporarily instead of Krisztina körút – Széll Kálmán tér – Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor major junction: the current junction mentioned above slightly narrowed, another in the area of the bus park while the third one on the northern carriageway of Széll Kálmán tér.

Further changes:

• Turning left from Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor towards Margit körút will be possible in two lanes as usual, but on a modified route.
• Proceeding from Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor towards Krisztina körút will be possible only in one lane, without traffic light control, according to the priority rule.
• The bus lane will be temporarily closed between Dékán utca and Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor, while the traffic will be able to proceed on the same route from Margit körút towards Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor.
• On Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor between Széll Kálmán tér and Retek utca proceeding outwards from the city will be possible only on one lane.
• Those who are arriving from Krisztina körút have to face the most significant changes, as the direct connection between Krisztina körút and Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor outwards from the city will be temporarily terminated. First they will have to turn right on two lanes, then proceed through the three above mentioned junctions with traffic light control to reach the carriageway on the northern side of Széll Kálmán tér through which Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor will be able to be reached.
• The access to Dékán utca and Margit körút from Krisztina körút will not be modified.

However we have created the temporary traffic alignment of Széll Kálmán tér in a way to preserve the traffic throughput capacity of the square as much as possible, traffic deceleration and minor congestions may occur on the main routes heading towards the square, particularly on the first days of the new traffic alignment.

We kindly ask cyclists to use the bypasses during the reconstruction of Széll Kálmán tér.

The area will be accessible for cyclists from the spring of 2016.

Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor (Városmajor)–Retek utca–Széna tér

Recommended bicycle path south of the square:
Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor (Városmajor)–Ignotus utca–Csaba utca–Hajnóczy József utca–Vérmező

The Chairlift is in operation in good weather even in January and February between 10:00 and 15:30 every day. Since bus 291 is out of service due to the reconstruction of Széll Kálmán tér, the extended bus line 102 serves the Chairlift’s Zugliget terminus. The Chairlift’s János hegy terminus is accessible on foot from Normafa. The regular schedules apply for buses 21 and 21A to Normafa. Buses 21 and 21A serve their original terminus on Széll Kálmán tér.
