From 27 February to 2 March 2015 - Public transport

Due to the refurbishment of Széll Kálmán tér the sales point in the metro station building has been closed. A temporary container ticket office located opposite the metro exit with 2 cash desks is now open every day from 05:00 to 23:00. In addition, four vending machines offering most ticket and pass types continue to operate on the square around the clock. The new Széll Kálmán tér Customer Service Centre is planned to be opened in autumn.

Accessing Széll Kálmán tér by public transport between 27 February and 2 March 2015

From the first scheduled departure on 27 February 2015 (Friday) until the last one on 2 March 2015 (Monday) metro line M2 will run on its entire route between Örs vezér tere and Déli pályaudvar however it will not serve Széll Kálmán tér metro station, as the refurbishment of the square will continue with the preparations for the reconstruction of the metro station building. In order to ensure uninterrupted metro service during the entire period of the reconstruction, temporary walls and a protective roof will be constructed within the building. BKK Centre for Budapest Transport will provide metro replacement bus service for the period between Friday and Monday. Replacement bus M2 will run with increased frequency between Déli pályaudvar M and Széll Kálmán tér M, serving the following temporary stops: at Déli pályaudvar on Kirsztina körút, at the pedestrian crossing between the railway station and the park (Vérmező), and two others at Széll Kálmán tér, the stop of buses 5, 91 and 102 and the stop of buses 22, 22A and 222.

The replacement bus will depart every 3 minutes in the mornings, every 5 minutes during the day, every 3–4 minutes in the afternoon rush hour and every 10 minutes in the evenings. On Saturday mornings it will depart every 5 minutes, every 7–8 minutes during the day, and in early mornings and late evenings every 10 minutes, while on Sundays every 7–8 minutes all day.

For metro users arriving from the direction of Örs vezér tere, the fastest way to reach Széll Kálmán tér is to take metro replacement bus M2 at Déli pályaudvar M.

Besides metro replacement bus M2, it is recommended to access Széll Kálmán tér from Déli pályaudvar by buses 22, 22A and 222 which will run on an extended route between Budakeszi and Déli pályaudvar M, serving the stop of the replacement bus. The route of buses 155 (Zugligeti út–Széll Kálmán tér M) and 156 (Dániel út–Széll Kálmán tér M) will be extended to Batthyány tér M+H, in order to maintain the direct transfer between metro line M2 and the above mentioned bus services.

All the other bus services departing from Széll Kálmán tér will be accessible by metro replacement bus M2, or by buses 22, 22A, 222, 155 or 156 all running on extended routes.

Furthermore Széll Kálmán tér will be accessible from Déli pályaudvar M terminus by trams 18, 59, 59A and 61, by buses 21, 21A, 39, 91, 102, 139 and by buses 140 and 140A, the latter two running only on weekdays. These buses serve their regular stops on the Alkotás utca side of Déli pályaudvar.

How to access to bus services departing from Széll Kálmán tér during the period 27 February to 2 March 2015

Metro line M2 passengers can reach buses departing from Széll Kálmán tér by transferring to replacement bus M2 at Déli pályaudvar. Some bus lines run on extended routes to Déli pályaudvar M, or Batthyány tér M+H, so transferring to the replacement bus is not required.

• Passengers wishing to take trams 4 or 6 from Széll Kálmán tér are advised to transfer to the trams from metro M2 at Blaha Lujza tér
• Passengers wishing to take buses 155 or 156 are advised to get off metro M2 at Batthyány tér station. During the above mentioned period, the routes of both bus lines are extended: bus 155 runs from Zugligeti út while bus 156 runs from Dániel út to Batthyány tér M+H terminus where they both serve the temporary stop of bus 86 at the bus terminus. Buses 155 and 156 temporarily serve the stop of bus 39 instead of their usual stop at Széll Kálmán tér.
• Passengers wishing to take buses 116 or 149 are advised to get off metro M2 at Batthyány tér station and transfer to buses 39, 155 or 156 to reach the Széll Kálmán tér M stop of bus 116 or the terminus of bus 149.
• Passengers wishing to take buses 16, 16A, 128 and 129 or tram 61 towards Hűvösvölgy are advised to transfer from metro M2 at Déli pályaudvar terminus to replacement bus M2 or buses 22, 22A or 222 to Széll Kálmán tér, where connections are available to buses 16, 16A, 128 and 129 as well as to tram 61 to Hűvösvölgy.
• Passengers wishing to take buses 22, 22A or 222 are advised to transfer from metro M2 at Déli pályaudvar terminus as the buses run on extended routes to the station. Buses 22, 22A and 222 run only on the edge of Széll Kálmán tér during this period serving the stop of buses 5, 91 and 102. (Passengers coming from Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor to reach the inner parts of Széll Kálmán tér, for instance the terminus of trams 4 and 6, are advised to walk or take buses 155 or 156.) At Déli pályaudvar please board the buses on Krisztina körút, at the temporary stop located at the pedestrian crossing leading from the train station to Vérmező.

Between 27 February and 2 March 2015, instead of Széll Kálmán tér, please change at Déli pályaudvar to metro line M2 from trams 18, 59 and 61 and from buses 21, 21A, 91, 102, 139, 140 and 140A.

From Batthyány tér M+H and from Déli pályaudvar M, change once to board bus 5, as follows:

• going from Déli pályaudvar, please change to bus 5 from replacement bus M2, buses 22, 22A and 222 at the Széll Kálmán tér stop on the same platform without the need to walk
• going from Batthyány tér M+H, please change at the Nyúl utca stop or at the Városmajor stop to bus 5 from buses 155 and 156 on the same platform without the need to walk.

Apart from the above mentioned changes, the public – and road transport alignment of Széll Kálmán tér valid since 2 February 2015 remains unchanged. The currently valid traffic aligment will apply at Széll Kálmán tér again from 3 March 2015 (Tuesday) to the next project phase (until circa 15 March).
