From 16 to 26 February 2015 - Public transport

Due to the refurbishment of Széll Kálmán tér the sales point in the metro station building has been closed. A temporary container ticket office located opposite the metro exit with 2 cash desks is now open every day from 05:00 to 23:00. In addition, four vending machines offering most ticket and pass types continue to operate on the square around the clock. The new Széll Kálmán tér Customer Service Centre is planned to be opened in autumn.

Please note that expectedly from 27 February until 2 March (Friday–Monday) the Széll Kálmán tér metro station will be closed and thus the trains will not serve the station. Further information will be provided on the changes of the metro service later.

The traffic alignment of Széll Kálmán tér valid from 2 February 2015 will temporarily not change otherwise. The refurbishment of the square has started on 12 January 2015 and it is expected to be finished by the spring of 2016. As a result the obsolete transport hub will be replaced by a modern, barrier-free and green public space with high quality services. Thus the transport of Buda together with the construction of the interconnected tram network will be completely renewed. A total of net HUF 5.3 billion fund is available for the refurbishment of Széll Kálmán tér stemming from the Government of Hungary, the European Union and the Municipality of Budapest. The reconstruction of the square takes place in several phases, occasionally causing inconvenient traffic restrictions, thus the service of the buses and trams serving the square will change several times. Service of trams 4 and 6 from 4:00 on 2 February until circa 14 March 2015

From 04:00 on 2 February 2015 (Monday) trams 4 and 6 run on the full length of their routes again between their terminuses in South Buda and Széll Kálmán tér M, however the Széll Kálmán tér terminus of trams 4 and 6 has been relocated to the currently unused terminus of tram 18 on the Vérmező út side of Széll Kálmán tér.
