Passengers who do not wear or wear incorrectly their mask while using Budapest’s public transport services are subject to fine on the spot in the amount of HUF 8,000 and can be even exempted from travel.

Number of the confirmed cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus disease rose again in September. It is of paramount importance to comply with the compulsory face-mask rule, in order that the spread of the virus could be prevented and slowed down. The majority of passengers are disciplined and continue to comply with the rule, however there are still passengers who do not cover their mouth and nose while using Budapest’s public transport services, despite the regulations in force since April. In order to mitigate the non-compliant behaviour, based on the decision made by the operative board, BKK has made strict rules: inspections are enhanced and passengers who do not cover or cover incorrectly their face by a mask, in line with the regulation in effect since April, while using Budapest’s public transport services are subject to fine by BKK on the spot in the amount of HUF 8,000 and can be even exempted from travel.
