Mobile ticket available via more and more apps

The distribution network selling public transport mobile tickets has been expanded with a new market player. Tickets and passes can be purchased for public transport services operated by BKK Centre for Budapest Transport even via the VoxPay app on smart phones.

After Simple a new distributor has joint the system dealing with the sales of BKK’s mobile tickets. The VoxPay is a Hungarian-owned app, independent from mobile service providers, which provides help to customers primarily for payment of parking fees and purchase of highway stickers. At this service provider, already also the mobile tickets are available; any passenger is able to purchase a ticket or pass for Budapest’s public transport services via this app.

About the mobile ticket

The mobile ticket project was launched in the summer of 2019 by BKK in cooperation with the National Mobile Payment Plc. After gaining favourable experience, the system has recently been expanded with several new products. The infrastructure of the National Mobile Payment System (NMFR) provides also the integration of distributors, functioning as an open platform and passengers are free to select from the apps via which they wish to purchase their mobile ticket. After slightly more than nine months, the Mobile ticket project reached the total turnover of the symbolic HUF 1 billion.

Besides the Mobile Payment Plc.’s own app named as Mobiljegy for public transport (for both Android  and iOS versions) and Simple (for both Android and iOS), also VoxPay enables the service to be used both on the Android and iOS systems. Therefore, currently, there are three apps available via which mobile tickets are sold for BKK’s public transport lines.  Passengers are only required to download the app of their choice to their smart phone.
