During the school leaving exam period to be held between 4 and 21 May 2020, Budapest’s public transport services are operating at full capacity, as per the workday schedule during school terms, in compliance with Mr. Mayor Gergely Karácsony’s request. The reason why we consider it necessary is that, as expected by our company, the majority of students having school leaving exams and teachers holding the school leaving exams will reach their educational institutions by Budapest’s public transport services. To ensure the secure travel during the coronavirus pandemic crisis, – in line with the mayor’s request -, BKK is examining on which lines and routes more frequent services should be provided, compared to the regular services. The company is able to make decisions about the more frequent services, by analysing the locations and days of the school leaving exams, therefore we will publish further details later on.

School leaving exams will start at 9:00 and 14:00 between 4 and 21 May. BKK Centre for Budapest Transport would like to kindly ask passengers, using Budapest’s public transport services, who do not head for their workplaces, to plan their travel, by avoiding the increased passenger traffic expected during this period.

What types of tickets and passes are recommended for school leavers?

Due to its significant discount, the Monthly Budapest-pass for pupils is recommended for also the pupils who use Budapest’s public transport services in the coming weeks only during their school leaving exam period. It is worthwhile to make a calculation about which types of passes or tickets are the most economical ones.

The pupils and students who are not in possession of a valid student ID due to the current state of emergency are entitled to travel discounts, by presenting their certificate electronically sent by the educational institution until the 15th day following the end of the state of emergency.

BKK would like to kindly call passengers’ attention to the fact that during the school leaving exam period the rules will be already applicable specifying that public transport services can be used only, by wearing either a mask or a kerchief or scarf covering the nose and mouth. This responsible behaviour is required to protect ourselves and also our fellow passengers from the risks of infection.
