On July weekends special heritage transport services are offered this year again.
Heritage tramway service
Turn back time by riding the hundred-year-old tramcars along the most beautiful sights of the Hungarian capital and feel the original atmosphere of late 19th-century Budapest. There is an outstanding view from the route to admire the sights like the Buda Castle, the Fisherman’s Bastion and Gellért Hill.
Hundred-year-old tramcars marked with a “J” are in operation on Sundays, 20 and 27 July on tram line 2 which is among National Geographic magazine’s Top 10 tram rides.
Vintage trams depart hourly from Jászai Mari tér terminus from 16:56 to 21:56 and from Közvágóhíd from 16:25 to 21:25 every hour.
Heritages bus service
Another fantastic opportunity is available in July for those who want to experience history live: BKV and the BKK jointly operate an articulated Ikarus 180 made in 1970 between Deák Ferenc tér M and Szentendre, a picturesque town north of Budapest that is also called “the gate of the Danube Bend”.
The heritage bus service is in operation on Saturday, 26 July. The 44-year-old bus is marked with a sign “C”.
The Ikarus 180 bus departs from Deák Ferenc tér M terminus at 10.00, 12.30 and 15.00 and back from Szentendre at 11.30, 14.00 and 16.30.
Please note that that special heritage service fares apply, passes and Budapest Cards are not valid. One-way adult fare is 500 HUF, children, ages 6-14: 300 HUF, under age 6: free.
When travelling outside the administrative boundaries of Budapest, please purchase a heritage transport extension ticket. The fare of the heritage transport extension ticket equals that of the heritage transport ticket within Budapest.
